Knitting, Reading, Cycling

Howdy! I am a 22 year old college student and I am trying to make a place to show my projects and favorite things in life. Hope you are at least a little entertained, and feel free to send me an ask if you are curious about anything or just want to make a comment!

Oh yeah!  I have a peg board for craft storage and now fully intend to load it up with all my stash now.

What a neat idea!

Knitted Star Trek iPad Covers
by KnitterWho

The iPad first appeared on Star Trek: The Next Generation in 2364, so it makes sense to accent one accordingly. Knitter Who made several custom iPad covers styled like the uniforms of the Enterprise-D’s bridge crew.

Can I just say I get giggly and excited whenever I browse the knitting tag and see folks starting or working on Doctor Who scarves? They are fun, easy, and ridiculously good looking! Keep on knitting guys!!!!

Is this how “real men” knit?  :)

Love it!

Hey guys! It’s been a while, thought i’d post about the yarn topic I am attempting to deal with at the moment, which is fun yet painstaking at the same time.

Stashbusting yarn.

I have so much yarn, guys. I know many people have a lot more, but personally I feel like I have a ton. I inherited a lot from other people, it’s also given to me for Christmas (which is awesome because it tends to be nice stuff I love working with and always always always enjoy), and I do pick up yarn when it’s massively on sale. This year i’ve decided I can’t buy yarn unless it is for a very specific project or until this is greatly reduced. I mean over 50% gone reduced. That means I have a lot of knitting to do!

That’s everything I could find in my apartment. (I had a weekend off and was super bored and had a new ball winder and went to town on my stash. That’s why its so compact and look like tiny perfect little stacks!) I have everything from super cheap acrylic yarn to pretty darn nice wool and cotton yarns in there. Now the real question is how can I reduce this stash?

#1 way- Knit-a-Square

I am posting in the challenge under my other “main” blog (Nerdyendeavors), but I am doing the Knittlestoned knit-a-square challenge. What is that, you ask? Knit-a-square is a charity that takes crocheted or knitted squares (since blankets get charged import rates but apparently individual squares don’t which is awesome) and the squares are sewn together to make blankets for children in South Africa with AIDS. (Website here) I figure for the yarn I am not really attached to, what greater purpose than doing something for a charitable cause? Donating money is good, but sometimes it goes to the wrong place, but giving knitted goods seems like a more likely way for your time and effort to go to the right place. Check it out!

#2 way- Etsy!

I finally opened my shop up! I don’t have much on there, just some washcloths that I knitted over Christmas break but I am looking to put more on there! I really want to do some nerdy knitting projects, I just need to chart out some ideas while school stays calm at the beginning of this semester.

So there ya go! There is a short rant over what I am up to, where I have gone, and what I am planning on doing. Hopefully I will be able to show some progress on the stash in a month or so, the Knit-a-square is slowly using up some of the stash (I already used about 3 skeins of yarn so far making squares).

Happy knitting y’all!!!!

Aluminium Pangolin Knit Gloves by ~CraftyMutt

YOU DON’T UNDERSTAND. THIS IS THE BEST THING EVER. I CANNOT. PANGOLINS AND KNITTING AND JUST. JFC.

I’m going to learn how to do this

How cool is this? Makes me wonder what other kind of additions can be added to a pattern to be this awesome!

Find the pattern here!

Ravelry link here!

Does this pattern not look fantastic!?! This is definatly going on my future project list, it seems like a easy pattern to follow and it seems like a fairly short project. Gorgeous!

Here are some of my finished projects that I gave away for Christmas! The yarns are:

SMC Argentina Yarn (the lacy yarn)

Rowan Kidsilk Creation Yarn (The fluffier yarn)

These were so great to knit! Each took around an hour to do and one skein, and since the yarn does all the hard work for you, they look a lot more complicated than they are to knit! The SMC yarn definitely ended up being longer than the Rowan, so if you wanted a longer, fluffy scarf of the Rowan yarn, make sure to pick up two skeins.

So historically, I am usually pretty terrible at New Years resolutions. I pick something abstract or random and its hard to stick to. This year, I have a slightly different goal in mind. Something definitive and achievable. Double bonus is that it’s something I love to do.

I am going to knit everyday, no matter how little. I am also going to try and do a post a day on this blog, and i’ve made a weekly posting guideline for myself to help with that goal.

Mostly it’s just an attempt to get more knitting done, but it is also to make a habit out of posting and knitting on a daily basis, and getting myself to do productive things… Productive as in making things for my etsy store and listening to the audio books I have really been wanting to read/listen to.

I think I will wait to start the daily posts until New Years Day, but I will try and post some of the projects I have done for Christmas this week!

Merry Christmas and I hope everyone has a safe holiday season and stays warm!
